Joseph teaches piano in a highly individualised and holistic way, working at each student’s own pace to cultivate refined musical and technical understanding. His approach rests on the belief that technique arises from genuine musical intention, depth of listening, and clear physical awareness at the instrument. Lessons encourage curiosity, thoughtful practice, and the development of a personal artistic voice.
Alongside foundational pianistic principles, students often explore musical communication, stylistic awareness, and the wider architecture of a score. Joseph draws on extensive performing and teaching experience, alongside studies in approaches such as the Alexander Technique and Taubman principles, helping students develop resilient, efficient, and expressive physical coordination at the piano.
While methodical, lessons are welcoming, relaxed, and centred around the needs and goals of the individual. Joseph has over ten years’ teaching experience, working at the University of Oxford, schools, and within his own studio of dedicated adult learners and younger musicians.
